This year, we are marking 100 years since the first Liverpool to Lourdes pilgrimage.
Every year since then, there has been a pilgrimage. The only exceptions to that are the Second World War and the Covid-19 pandemic.
This time, we look back on the 2020s so far. A decade that, so far, has been dominated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The world spent most of 2020 and into 2021 in lockdown, but there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Towards the end of 2020, the vaccine started being rolled out, and restrictions slowly started to be eased.
The end of an era also came this decade. Queen Elizabeth II passed away not long after celebrating her diamond jubilee. Her death came just over a year after her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, passed away a few months shy of his 100th birthday. After that, we saw the coronation of King Charles III.
In 2022, the pilgrimage returned to Lourdes and picked up where they left off in 2019.
