We provide general advice to priests and parishes regarding sacraments and legal/canon law issues, including marriages and annulments.
Most of our work is in handling any paperwork and permissions for marriages, including dispensations, annulments and helping people who are getting married abroad or outside of the archdiocese.
Our team are qualified and trained to advise, investigate, and determine whether or not a particular marriage might be declared invalid in light of Church law, whilst always displaying a professional manner and working with a high level of compassion.
Marriage is a Sacrament and is a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman. However, we understand that for various reasons, sometimes marriages do end in separation. It may be possible for the Church to investigate a marriage to see if it was indeed invalid in accordance with Church law.
If, after investigation, the evidence shows that a particular marriage was invalid from the start, then the Church may declare it null and will issue a declaration of nullity. This would leave open the possibility of a further marriage recognised by the Church.
