With Archbishop Patrick Kelly continuing his convalescence following successful hip replacement surgery Bishop Vincent Malone presided at the Palm Sunday Solemn Mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King.
The Palms were blessed by Bishop Malone outdoors on the ‘Still Point’ monument in the Cathedral Garden. After the reading of the Gospel account of the Entry into Jerusalem the congregation processed through the garden and into the Cathedral for Solemn Mass as the Choir sang ‘Hosanna to the Son’ by Weelkes and the traditional hymn ‘All glory laud and honour’ was sung by Choir and congregation. During Mass the Passion according to Saint Matthew was sung.
At the afternoon celebration of Choral Evening Prayer the Choir sang Allegri’s ‘Miserere’, the hauntingly beautiful 17th century setting of psalm 50 and its penitential theme which is so apt for Passiontide.
