Father Anthony Fleming, former Parish Priest of St Cecilia, Tuebrook, Liverpool and St Michael, Ditton Widnes has died at the age of 78.
Anthony Fleming was born in Liverpool on 21 October 1932 the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Fleming. His early education was at St Edmund’s, Waterloo and St Mary’s College, Crosby. He studied for the priesthood at St Joseph’s College, Upholland and at the College of St Peter and St Paul, Lisbon. He was ordained at the English College, Lisbon on 8 June 1963.
His first appointment was to XII Apostles, Leigh where he served until July 1969 when he moved to St William of York, Thornton. In June 1976 he went to St Bede’s in Widnes and two years later in June 1978 to St Columba, Huyton. The following year he moved to St Richard, Bootle and in 1983 was appointed as Parish Priest of St Cecilia, Tuebrook, Liverpool. He remained there for twenty years moving in 2003 to St Michael’s, Ditton, Widnes. He retired from parish ministry in 2008 and served as Chaplain at Christopher Grange in Liverpool.
He died on the morning of Monday 28 March. May he rest in peace.
His body will be received into Ince Blundell for Mass celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop, Tom Williams, at 7.30 pm on Monday 4 April. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Vincent Malone at 11.00 am on Tuesday 5 April at St Peter and St Paul, Crosby.
