The Archdiocese of Liverpool operates an annual capital programme to support schools in maintaining their buildings. We have a condition-led strategy to seek to ensure that, principally, schools have safe, operational, and ‘weatherproof’ buildings that are well-maintained.
All schools within the Archdiocese can request support through the Archdiocese capital programme and the latest version of the capital programme is downloadable from this page, as is our Capital and School Places strategy document which sets out in further detail the policy context in which we work.
The buildings of schools within Archdiocesan trusteeship are owned by the trustees and therefore in all cases – and regardless of the nature of funding used - all capital investment in schools in Archdiocesan trusteeship must be approved prior to implementation. Such approval is obtained following consideration by the Archdiocese Building Projects Committee (BPC) which meets monthly.
It is the expectation of the BPC that appropriate advice is sought in the development and implementation of all capital projects and, to this end, all schools have access to an Archdiocese-appointed area surveyor to give advice and help in respect of any building work that the Governors deem to be necessary or investment provided through the Archdiocese capital programme. The use of the area surveyor assists not only the delivery of a capital project but also to ensure that all necessary statutory processes incorporated in a capital project on a school site are properly adhered to. They will also ensure that all capital projects are appropriately reported to the BPC.
