The Archdiocese and GDPR

Everything that you need to know about the Archdiocese of Liverpool and GDPR is in our Privacy Notice, available on our website

We are pleased to share our good news that our new Privacy Notice is available on our website and here you can find all you need to know about the Archdiocese of Liverpool in relation to data protection legislation.

As you may know, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force on 25 May 2018 and we think this provides us with a wonderful opportunity to be clear about what we do with your personal data.

The GDPR says that all organisations have to follow strict rules around data protection and that religious organisations are no exception, meaning the Archdiocese has a duty to follow the regulations. Our Data Protection Officer is the person responsible for ensuring that we will be fully compliant with the GDPR legislation.

We need to collect personal data to enable us to carry out our activities from weddings to funerals and general pastoral care. We want to reassure and inform you that you can trust us with your data; when you provide us with any personal information we will respect your privacy, ensure we keep your information safe and be clear how long we will hold your personal information.

Whilst you’re here, please take time to look at our Privacy Notice which informs you what we do with the personal data we collect and gives our contact details. The information we collect is for a legitimate purpose; which is the pursuance of the Roman Catholic faith, which usually means that we don’t need your consent. Although we have a legitimate purpose to collect your personal data, for example to perform a marriage ceremony, our parishes will ensure that we respect the privacy of your information and let you know where we hold your personal information and for how long. This is part of our common-sense approach to data protection.

Many of our records are historic documents for example wedding registers and we can reassure you that this information is held securely.

Please be reassured that whenever you provide personal data to us, your information will be dealt with properly in accordance with the GDPR legislation.
